Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching
Holistic alignment of body, mind and soul
Welcome to my website. I'm Sarah Thom, and I want you to know that I see you and understand the struggles that have brought you here. It's important to remember that there is hope, and full recovery from eating disorders is possible. You don't have to go through this journey alone.
About me: Before becoming a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, I dedicated over 20 years of my life as a critical care Nurse. During that time, I became acutely aware of the limitations of our modern healthcare system, which often fails to address the entirety of a person's being - body, mind, and soul. While allopathic medicine focuses on treating illness and disease, it frequently overlooks underlying mental health issues, trauma, and fails to equip individuals with the tools for self-empowerment and self-authenticity. With this realization, I embarked on a journey to explore alternative healing modalities that include mindfulness practice, sound healing, meditation, assertive communication, and self-empowerment training.
Through my own personal struggles, I understand the pain, devastation, trauma, shame, and isolation that eating disorders can cause. Despite being told by health professionals that I would not survive, I experienced firsthand that full recovery from an eating disorder is indeed possible. A major shift occurred when I began receiving treatment and started feeling different, both physically and mentally. I began reconnecting with parts of my authentic self that I thought were lost forever. I transitioned from waking up each day filled with dread and exhaustion to living a life that I didn't think was possible. Now, as an RN and Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, I have the honor of assisting others on their own journey towards wellness and helping them rediscover their true, authentic selves.
Combining my personal history of disordered eating, my experience in the healthcare profession, and my passion for holistic wellness, I possess a unique and comprehensive skillset that deeply understands the inner condition and turmoil of eating disorders. I received direct training from world-renowned eating disorder specialist Carole Costin and hold a certification from The Carolyn Costin Institute. I firmly believe that my soul's purpose is to assist others on their journey towards wellness and help them rediscover their true, authentic selves.
I am blessed to call the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, my home. In my spare time, you can find me surfing, drumming, offering sound healing therapy sessions, and exploring the stunning hiking trails.

Coaches work in conjunction with the client’s treatment team, coaches help “in the moment” during real time day to day struggles. A coach can assist with the daily, practical, hands-on aspects of recovery such as, ongoing text support, eating meals together, grocery and clothes shopping, and cooking, all of which coaches can do in person or virtually. Coaches might even accompany clients to social functions to help them get through the event without resorting to eating disorder behaviors. In essence, coaches can provide support that licensed treatment professionals cannot or don’t want to provide due to time constraints or ethics.
- Carolyn Costin
What does it mean to be recovered?:
“The person can accept his or her natural body size and shape and no longer has a self-destructive or unnatural relationship with food or exercise. When you are recovered, you do not use eating disorder behaviors to deal with, distract from, or cope with other problems. When recovered, you will not compromise your health or betray your soul to look a certain way, wear a certain size or reach a certain number on the scale.” – Carolyn Costin

What is the meaning of Mana?
In the native Hawaiian culture, the sacred term mana is known as spiritual energy of power and strength.
We all have this power and strength within, but often eating disorders can lead us away from our authentic self and we loose our personal power. My goal as a coach is to uncover and work through obstacles to reignite the mana from within, so you can live a fully empowered life in which you are thriving not surviving.
