Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching
Trauma-informed recovery for eating, embodiment, and wholeness.

About Sarah Thom
Welcome. I’m Sarah Thom, and I want you to know—I see you. If you're here, you're likely carrying pain, fear, or exhaustion from your journey with an eating disorder. I’ve been there too. And I want you to know: full recovery is possible. You don’t have to do this alone.
Before becoming a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, I spent over 20 years as a critical care nurse. That experience opened my eyes to the deep gaps in our healthcare system—especially when it comes to trauma, mental health, and the nervous system. I saw how symptoms were treated, but souls were often overlooked.
My own recovery journey changed everything. I know firsthand the devastation and isolation of disordered eating—and the profound relief that comes when the body and mind begin to feel safe again. Recovery for me wasn’t just about stopping behaviors; it was about reconnecting with parts of myself I thought were gone forever. It was the shift from surviving to living.
My approach is rooted in both personal experience and professional training. I hold certifications as an RN (BSN, CCRN) and as a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach through The Carolyn Costin Institute. I’ve also trained in trauma-informed care, mindfulness, assertive communication, and nervous system regulation. I combine top-down tools like cognitive reframing with bottom-up methods like somatic work, polyvagal-informed coaching, and sound healing.
I created Stillness + Salt to hold space for the kind of recovery I wish I’d had sooner—one that honors the full human experience: mind, body, and spirit.
Today, I live on the island of Maui with my son, where I surf, drum, explore nature, and offer healing in many forms. My work is guided by a deep belief: that when safety is restored to the body, the soul begins to speak—and healing follows.

Recovery coaches work alongside your treatment team to provide real-time, practical support in day-to-day life. While therapists focus on deeper clinical work, coaches help you apply recovery tools in the moments that matter most.

This can include:
-
Text check-ins and accountability throughout the day
-
Virtual or in-person support during meals
-
Grocery shopping, cooking, or clothing outings
-
Nervous system regulation during challenging moments
-
Support during social events or food-related triggers
Recovery coaches bridge the gap between therapy and real life—helping you stay grounded, nourished, and supported as you build consistency and trust in the recovery process.

What does it mean to be recovered?:
“The person can accept his or her natural body size and shape and no longer has a self-destructive or unnatural relationship with food or exercise. When you are recovered, you do not use eating disorder behaviors to deal with, distract from, or cope with other problems. When recovered, you will not compromise your health or betray your soul to look a certain way, wear a certain size or reach a certain number on the scale.” – Carolyn Costin

We all have this power and strength within, but often eating disorders can lead us away from our authentic self and we loose our personal power. My goal as a coach is to uncover and work through obstacles to reignite the mana from within, so you can live a fully empowered life in which you are thriving not surviving.
